Naples

With almost 3,000 years of history and around 1 million inhabitants, Naples is a surprising metropolis. Greco-Roman antiquity and Gothic and Baroque churches engage in a dialogue with the vibrant modernity of street culture, creating a unique blend of culture and popular warmth that no other place in the world can boast.
Officially founded by Greek colonists from Cumae in 475 BCE as Neapolis, its earliest settlements date back four centuries prior. These are tied to the legend of the siren Parthenope, who, rejected by Ulysses, let herself be carried away by the waves. Her body was swept by the currents to the islet of Megaride in the Gulf of Naples, solidifying the eternal bond between the city and the sea.

Indeed, the city's development is deeply connected to the sea. Its port has been a crossroads of cultures for centuries, helping to embed hospitality into the DNA of Neapolitans.
The succession of various dominations and the familiarity with an unquiet nature, of which Mount Vesuvius is the most evident reminder, have forged the character of a versatile and fatalistic people, inclined to miracles and magic. Naples is a world-city, overflowing with personality, impossible to fully describe. It's a place capable of transforming anyone who experiences it, even if only for a vacation.
